Southside - A Real 'First Priority' Church!
Southside Christian Church in Adelaide, Australia is a remarkable example of what God can do in a short space of time, through a group of people who are committed to 'making Him Famous' in their community.
Started just 8 years ago, this church now numbers over 2000 active people and features both powerful presentation of the gospel and credible social outreach work.
Mal Fletcher preached there again recently and said later, 'Pastor Danny Guglielmucci has been a very close, covenant friend of ours for a long time - since we were pioneering Youth Alive together. I'm so pleased to see how well he's doing! This church is without doubt one of Australia's very best churches now - it's certainly one of its fastest growing.'
A number of European leaders will remember Danny from his contribution to the EyE London forum a few years back. He is planning to attend in 2001.
Mal was at Southside both for the church and for the 'First Priority' Conference which drew leaders and pastors from across South Australia to be equipped for mission. Host of the conference, Pastor Gary Rucci, is part of Southside's team, and a man committed to touching nations.
The other speaker was Pastor Jack Hanes, the new head of Assemblies of God World Missions in Australia. This movement has launched the 'First Priority Resource Centre' which is providing resources for churches across the nation who are wanting to invest in world outreach on a large scale. Jack's vision is the see every church recongize world outreach as their 'First Priority'!
Jack is pastor of a large church in Penrith, NSW, which last year gave over 3 million Australian dollars to international outreach. Mal says, 'Jack came to Australia from the USA with his family and 8 bags 15 years ago. He started a church and has since become more passionate about what Aussies can do in the world than most Aussies (and that's saying something!) He's an outstanding gift to our homeland.'
The land down under is becoming a world model in raising up an international ministry mindset via the local church!
