Faith Against the Odds

29 March 2024

Mark 10:51-52 "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." "Go," said Jesus, "your faith has healed you." Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.' (NIV)

Jesus taught that we are a more than the product of our environment or our genetic inheritance, we are a largely the result of our choices. Faith itself is a decision. Faith is not something we inherit genetically. Its benefits don't come to us simply because we live in the right kind of environment, either. Many people who received great miracles from Jesus were living in terrible circumstances at the time. They had absolutely no encouragement to believe God. They made their decision of faith despite being surrounded by antagonism and doubt. Jesus never once said to anybody, 'Your environment has made you well,' or, 'It's because of your high social status that you've been healed.' Nor did he say, 'The faith of your parents has made you well!' He declared, 'Your faith has made you well.' Faith is a personal, individual decision: to line up your life with how God says it can be. If God says I can be healed of sickness in Jesus' name, faith will demand that I start to pray and believe for healing. If God says that my past can be forgiven, that I can have a new beginning, faith begins to pray for and act as if that is true. You are not a product of what others might have said or done to you. Your direction in life is largely a result of your own choices – and there's no choice that's stronger, or more life-changing, than the choice to believe the word of God!

Prayer: ?Father, help me to believe your word today, and to act as if its promises are true. Thank you that I am not just product of my environment or my genes. Faith decisions made today can change my destiny.'
