A Legacy of Faith

26 April 2024

Isaiah 54:3 'For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities.' (NIV)

I've often heard people talking about leaving a legacy for their children. This is actually a very biblical idea. There are many passages in the Bible that talk about the fact that godly people leave something good for their children and their children's children. In fact, that's a sign of God's favour on their lives. He enables them to have not just enough for their own needs, but more to pass on to their offspring. God cares about the generations: study how he watched over Abraham's descendants, from Isaac onwards. God would like for each of us to be in a place where we can pass something good onto the next generation. However, leaving a legacy is not just about the bequest of money, or property. In fact, the greatest inheritance your children can have is spiritual, a legacy of faith. The most wonderful bequest you can make is that of a faith-filled life, packed with adventure and risk, where God commanded, you obeyed, and then everyone saw the breakthrough. If we truly live for something bigger than we are, we can be sure that our children will 'inherit the nations' and inhabit 'desolate cities.' One day, your children, and perhaps even their children, will be able to build on the eternal foundation you have built, achieving even bigger things for God because of the example of your faith. So, on the days when you feel like giving up, like this faith-life is just too hard, try to see things from a heavenly perspective. Your faithfulness, especially in the face of tough challenges, will set up a great future of your children. They will live to call you blessed, because they will finish what you started!

Prayer: 'Dear God, I want to leave more to the next generation, especially my own descendants, than money. Help me to build a platform of faith for the future. Please make me a true pioneer of faith.'
