Don't Settle For Mediocrity

20 April 2024

Matthew 5:14 'You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.'

Years ago, I saw a road sign that made me double back just to check that my eyes weren't deceiving me. It said, in huge block letters, 'Quiet Please!' Under that, in smaller letters, it had one word… 'Church'. Quiet Please – Church. What kind of message does that send to the community? You'd better keep the noise down – God's asleep, the church is at rest. Charles Finney led an estimated one million people to Christ during his lifetime. He said that 'the church of Jesus Christ was first instituted to be a body of reformers.' Don't settle for mediocrity, or for a quiet little place in the corner of your world. Don't allow circumstances or the opinions of others to 'keep you in your place'. Stand up and be heard for Jesus' sake. Not in an arrogant way, but with a heart that says, 'I'm built for influence. Get used to it world – by God's grace I'm going to make some changes before I leave this planet.'

Prayer: 'Lord, please help me to reform the world around me. Help me not to allow myself to be marginalized. Help me to involve myself in the things that really affect people's lives today.'
