Hillsong Sydney Celebrates 25 Years

07 November 2008

Hillsong Church, Sydney recently celebrated its 25th year, with a very special celebration event at the popular Darling Harbour waterside development in inner Sydney.

The event, watched by thousands of people who lined the foreshore and surrounding area, featured a documentary style big-screen presentation on the history and vision of the church. The special emphasis was the church's work in the community.

Mal and Davina Fletcher were guests at the celebration, which followed Mal's appearance at the Hillsong Men's Conference, hosted by Pastor Brian Houston.

Mal said: "This is truly a remarkable church, which has touched so many parts of the world. Over these 25 years it has promoted the cause of the local church and given people a new concept of what churches can achieve in their world."

"I have been associated with the church, through my friendship with pastors Brian and Bobby Houston, for almost the entire time of its existence. I am often amazed at how much is being achieved by this community of very committed and sacrificial people."

"For me, one of the most significant things about this celebration event is that it feels like church-in-the-open, rather than just another concert-style event."

Thousands of people lined the Darling Harbour foreshore to watch the event. The worship band was situated on a floating platform offshore and the night's festivities were capped off with a full-scale fireworks display that lit up the Sydney skyline.
