Church in the Public Square
Video interview with Mal Fletcher
'The church is not called the "sauce of the earth", but the "salt of the earth",' says Mal Fletcher, director of Next Wave International and chairman of the 2020Plus think tank on social change.
'As Christian leaders in both the church and the marketplace, our focus should be on finding what is positive in the culture of the city, what is potentially honouring to God, and enhancing or redeeming that!'
'Today's church is often so focused on gathering a crowd that we miss the issues of real influence. I know from experience that crowds may be a product of influence but they're not necessarily a measure of influence.'
In this exclusive interview, filmed for the Everything Conference in the London, Mal speaks about civic influence, the future, leadership and some of the people and projects who have inspired him.
He also shares his own journey, which has led him to making regular contributions on the BBC, Sky TV and others, and to helping churches build levels of trust with high-level leaders in their cities.
The interviewer is Pastor David Stroud, leader of the New Frontiers network of churches and pastor of ChristChurch, London.
