Moving into the Mainstream

Added 31 March 2004 View full list    Print version
During February, Mal met with the head of BBC Religion and Ethics, Mr Alan Bookbinder, in Manchester. Mal described the meeting as very constructive, both from the point of view of future production and in giving him a clearer insight into the needs of mainstream broadcasters.

Mal said, 'The purpose of the meeting was twofold: to investigate the suitability of a social comment program like EDGES for BBC broadcast and to learn more about the workings of such a large media institution, and its openness to religious programming. I didn't walk away with any agreements regarding broadcast -- and I probably didn't expect that. But I am encouraged that the door remains open for further discussion, with the view to us contributing to the BBC in some way in future. This in itself is a significant development. We ask our partners to keep praying and supporting our push into this major sphere of influence!'

In the UK in 2008, the Church does not seem to do well on broadcast media. Yet it has important things to say. I want to thank you Mal for your forward-looking approach to sorting this out.

I was much blessed to hear Mal in the Portuguese Conference in January. My expectations for life were lifted up! Thank you for the good work you've done in our Church!
